Chapter 13 of 17

Open Cockpit

How to show your home cockpit

In Open Cockpit pilots show where they fly from: anything from a desk with a joystick to a simulator shell in the garage. Everyone has one cockpit with photos, a hardware passport and a story. No account is needed to look.

How to open your cockpit

  1. 1Post photosThe Open your cockpit button, then Add. Up to 12 photos, the first one becomes the cover.
  2. 2Fill in the passportSims, platform, hardware as tags and the year the build started. All optional, and the tracker fills in your hours and flights.
  3. 3Tell the storyUp to 3000 characters on how it all began. Optional, but it is what people ask about most.
  4. 4Open the cockpitUntil it is open, the cockpit is a draft only you can see. You can open it once there is at least one photo.
You are photographing your home, so check the frame before uploading: documents on the desk, an address outside the window, faces of your family. The server strips the geotag itself, but whatever is in the frame is visible to everyone.

Applause and comments

Cockpits are rated with applause only, one per pilot. Comments are for questions about the hardware, and the owner's reply is marked Captain. Commenting and applauding open once your email is confirmed.

Something wrong? Report it from the ⋯ menu of the cockpit or with the link under a comment. A moderator can hide a photo, a comment or the whole cockpit. A hidden cockpit goes back into the feed only after the moderator checks it, so remove or replace the photo it was hidden for.
